Argo App - How is a smartphone used to unlock doors?

The electronic cylinder uses Bluetooth Smart technology (with a range of up to 10 metres), so network coverage is not needed for either the smartphone or the electronic cylinder.

Argo App -Is access control with a smartphone using the Argo App secure?

Communication between the smartphone and the lock device installed on the door is encrypted. As the code changes each time the lock is opened, hacking to obtain the code is ineffective. The encryption system currently used makes the Libra extremely resistant to digital attack.

Argo App - What if the smartphone I use to open the door runs out of battery charge?

If your smartphone battery is out of charge, the door can be opened with one of the cards provided by Iseo together with the lock system, while your credit card or a smartband may also be enabled to open the door. You'll never run the risk of being locked out of your house.

Argo App - If someone steals my phone or wallet, can they get into my house?

If your cards or smartphone are lost or stolen, they can be deactivated from the Argo software so that they cannot be used by anyone else to open the door. This means that security against unauthorised entry is still ensured without having to change the lock on the door.

Argo App - What happens if there is a power outage?

The lock system installed on the door is powered by long-life batteries with a lifespan of up to 5 years or 50,000 open cycles. The user is warned when the battery charge is low by both the lock device and the app on their smartphone. This means that you'll never be left locked out of your home, even if there is no electrical power.

Argo App - Why is Bluetooth communication used between the smartphone and the lock device instead of wi-fi?

Our devices use the Bluetooth Low Energy transmission standard to ensure much longer battery life (up to 5 years or 50,000 open cycles). Wi-fi communication consumes much more power. So there's never any risk of being left locked out of your house, as both the lock device and the app on your smartphone will warn you repeatedly when the battery charge is low.

The app can be downloaded and updated completely free of charge. The app is available for Android and iOS smartphones.

Can the Libra electronic cylinder also be installed on an existing door?

The Libra electronic cylinder can also be installed on existing doors equipped with any electric or mechanical Euro profile cylinder. To install, the existing cylinder on the door is simply replaced with the Libra electronic cylinder.

Can the Libra cylinder also be used on exterior doors?

A heavy duty version of the electronic cylinder with a protection rating of IP66 is available for exterior doors. This version offers levels of mechanical protection equivalent to a high security cylinder and superior weather resistance.

What is a European-profile cylinder?

It is the most used cylinder in locks. It features standardized sizes and dimensional tolerances to allow interchangeability in locks by different manufacturers.

What is an anti-drill cylinder?

An Anti-drill cylinder is provided with protective devices which make drilling more difficult and longer; these devices may be pins or internal carbonitrided elements or case-hardened steel elements.

What is an anti-tear cylinder?

An anti-tear cylinder is provided with protective devices which make tearing more difficult and longer.

What is the term Bumping associated to a cylinder?

Bumping is a picking technique to open cylinders. A bump key is inserted into the cylinder and is used as a tensor. The key is then knocked with any  rigid object, the pins jump up and the cylinder opens.

I lost all my keys and I have to replace the cylinder, how can I do it?

Some cylinders need the key in order to be disassembled. In this case, if they have a property card with a code, the key can be reproduced in a service centre even without the original. Otherwise, you will have to pick the cylinder.

What is a construction site cylinder?

It is a cylinder having a key which can only be used during the building stage (first-use key), and a bunch of sealed keys handed over to the end user (second-use key). The insertion of the second-use key disables the first –use key (the process is not reversible).

What is a recodable cylinder?

It is a cylinder provided with one or two bunches of sealed keys (1st, 2nd and 3rd use).

The 1st bunch is normally used to open the cylinder.

Should any of the keys in the 1st bunch get lost,  security is guaranteed using a key from the 2nd bunch. The insertion of the second-use key disables the first –use key (the process is not reversible).

If a cylinder is provided with the 3rd bunch, the lock can be further recoded.

Which voltage must be used for an electric lock?

Most electric locks operates with a 12 volt Ac or Dc, but there are also 24 volt versions. Carefully read the instructions.

Can an electric lock be opened if the voltage runs out?

Electric locks are generally provided with a cylinder or handle for mechanical opening. According to the application, the cylinder and the handle could be only internal, only external or both.

Which is the difference between a flat forend and a “U” forend?

The forend is the part of the lock which is seen when the door is opened and is used for fixing.

The choice of the two forends depends on the type of profile where they are fixed or on the type of supports offered by the profile. Generally, the U forend is used in multi-point locks and for door-type profiles.

What are MK systems?

MK systems are manufactured with customized cylinders. They can be:

MK systems, commonly known as passe-partout, where a set of individual cylinders can be opened both by their own keys and by a single key called master key.

CK systems, where one or more cylinders (called central cylinders), are operated by different keys.

How many cylinders can be made from each master key?

It depends on the type of cylinder, since each cylinder features a limited quantity of resources for the development; moreover the system complexity reduces the utmost development capacity as well.

Can you add further cylinders to an existing system?

A part of resources is generally kept for further development. When these resources are run out no other cylinder can be added.

What is a striking plate?

It is the component where the bolt of the lock extends into when the door is closed. It may be of different shapes, materials and finishes according to the type of frame and lock.

Why is the striking plate adjusted?

Adjustable striking plates have been designed to meet the installation requirements according to the different aluminium frames; a few articles which can be adjusted to many profiles. 

Striking plates can be adjusted to the lock after installing the door, ensuring a precise locking. 

Which standard regulates door closers?

Door closers are regulated by EN1154.

What is a panic exit?

Panic exits are specific escape exits installed in locations in which panic situations may arise and containing large numbers of persons who are not familiar with the use of exits and the opening devices installed on them.

What is an emergency exit?

Emergency exits are escape exits normally used by persons who have received instruction on the use of the exits and of the opening devices installed on them (such as exit doors in office spaces in a company building), in applications for which the relevant authorities deem that dangerous situations may be managed in a controlled manner and without panic.

What limitations are there for the installation of panic exit and emergency exit devices?

The regulations EN1125 and EN179 concerning panic exit and emergency exit devices also define the limitations for the use of these devices, such as: maximum mass of the door, maximum height of the door, maximum width of the door and permitted temperature range.

Which standards regulate emergency exits?

EN 1125

Standard concerning panic exits with devices operated by a horizontal bar (traditional lever- or push-bars).  Devices installed in places with people or audience not trained for emergency procedures: theatres, cinemas, buildings for sporting activities and so on.

EN 179

Standard concerning panic exits operated by handle, plate or lever.  Devices installed in places with people or audience trained for emergency procedures: offices, power plants and so on.

What is a product certification?

It is a voluntary certification where an independent body assesses and certifies that the technical-productive stages of panic exit devices comply with the relevant European standard.

What does the CE mark mean on a panic exit or emergency exit device?

The letters "CE" of the CE mark stand for "Conformité Européene", meaning "conformity with European standards". It serves an immediately recognisable visual symbol demonstrating that the product on which it is applied is conformant with all harmonised standards, directives and regulations in effect within the European Community applicable to the production and commercialisation of that specific type of product. The CE marking certifies that the design, manufacture and intended use of the product comply in full with all applicable regulations and standards.

What is the la DoP?

DoP stands for Declaration of Performance. This is a mandatory document accompanying the CE marking for construction materials. This document specifies the intended use (as covered by the respective harmonised standard) and performance characteristics of the product, and the essential information necessary for the identification and traceability of the product itself.

What is the Declaration of Conformity?

The declaration of conformity is a mandatory document required to attain the CE marking for construction products. It is compiled by the manufacturer or importer of the product to declare that the product itself is conformant with all European directives applicable to the specific product category, which must be listed in full in the document.

Can a Pad device be assembled in a public place?

PAD devices complies to EN 179 standard.

In Italy, their application is limited by a law enacted on November 3rd, 2004, concerning the activities subject to the control of the firefighting authorities in order to issue a fire prevention certificate.

They can be installed if:

  • The activity is open to the public and the door is usable by less than 10 people.
  • The activity is not open to the public and the door is usable by 9 to 26 people.
What are the obligations of the installer?

The most important things that the installer must ensure are that the product is installed exactly as indicated in the installation instructions provided together with the device, and that the characteristics of the product are not altered in any way whatsoever during the installation process. The installer must then compile and sign the declaration of correct installation, which must specifically cite the instructions of the manufacturer, and hand this document to the customer.

Can the Push panic exit device be shortened?

All devices belonging to this series can be shortened. The minimum size varies according to the device product family.

What is a microswitch and what is it used for?

It is an additional device which, inserted into the panic exit device, allows to signal, even from a distance, the operation of the push bar (door opening); the microswitch must be connected to a sound, light device or other devices.

It is a new patented keep for panic exit devices much more secure than traditional latches since it uses self-locking and anti-breaking Ø 14 mm top and bottom points.

What does it mean if a panic or emergency exit device is fire/smoke resistant?

Usually, whether or not a panic or emergency exit device is suitable for installation on fire/smoke resistant doors is indicated in the manufacturer's catalogue, as in accordance with the standards UNI EN 1125 and UNI EN 179, the manufacturer is required to subject its products to fire/smoke resistance testing complete with all accessories, including any panic exit and emergency exit devices.

Can panic exit devices be assembled on PVC profiles?

The standard keeps are not suitable for PVC profiles, yet they can be bought separately as accessories.

What is the hold-open function for?

This function allows a panic or emergency exit door to be held open. This function is particularly useful for all situations in which it is necessary to keep doors open for extended periods of time. The hold-open function is not available for panic exit devices installed on fire doors.

What is Push Sirena?

Push Sirena is a panic exit device with an integrated audible alarm signal. It has been designed to avoid the need to install complicated and costly alarm systems on doors. Push Sirena is installed like a conventional panic bar, but includes an integrated audible alarm system which, when activated, immediately signals any unauthorised aperture of escape doors.

What is the Antigerm treatment?

What is the PVD treatment?

PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) is a technologically advanced process which applies a very thin metal film coating to surfaces. The thickness of this film varies from just a few tenths of a micron to more substantial thicknesses, depending on the needs of the application.
